Our Mission

Welcome to the Red Rose Trans Movement. We are a collective forged in the crucible of the penal system, united by our lived experiences and a fierce determination to create a more just and equitable future for the LGBTQ+ community. We understand the profound pain that comes from systemic oppression, but we also believe in the power of resilience and the strength that comes from honoring those who paved the way for us. Join us as we commit to abolition and advocate for a society free from the prison industrial complex.

From Incarceration to Inspiration

Our journey began within the confines of the penal system, where we experienced firsthand the harsh realities and injustices that no human being should endure. Emerging from that darkness, we are now stronger, more determined, and driven by a shared vision. We extend this understanding and solidarity to the LGBTQ+ community: we feel your pain, but we urge you to transform it. By reflecting on the sacrifices of past leaders and channeling that inspiration, we can honor their legacy and continue the fight. The Red Rose Trans Movement is more than an organization; it's a testament to our resilience and a powerful call for abolition, declaring that the prison industrial complex has no place in a just society.

Accountability and Legacy

We aspire to inspire and motivate by fostering a culture of mutual accountability. When we offer services, we must be held to that promise. It is disheartening to witness individuals within our own community exploit the needs of others for personal gain, building wealth on the backs of those who fought for our progress. True homage to our legacy lies in uplifting, not exploiting. We've observed some organizations rise to prominence by leveraging the pain and struggles of the trans community for their own advancement, only to discard us when we seek authenticity and genuine support. The tactics of division and misinformation, shamefully, often originate from within. The Red Rose Trans Movement stands for integrity and collective empowerment.

Passing the Torch with Honor

The powerful image of leading a parade as a torchbearer after 19 years of incarceration encapsulates our ethos. It represents the crucial moment when leaders, intoxicated by power, risk forgetting the mission and the community that granted them influence. It is vital to recognize when one's work is complete and to step down with honor, rather than becoming the oppressor we once fought against. Losing the respect of our community due to an overextended presence is a profound failure. Our community is unforgiving of those who pretend to champion our cause while causing further harm. We advocate for retiring with dignity and, most importantly, for passing the torch to the next generation of leaders.

"We are abolitionists who believe the prison industrial complex has no place in today's society. We need to send them the message that their services are no longer needed."
